Why does the doctor recommend angiography?

Main indications

Angiography is usually recommended for chest pain, breathlessness, unstable angina and abnormal stress test results.

It may also be needed after a heart attack to assess the arteries precisely.

How it differs from other tests

ECG and echocardiography show how the heart works but not the inside of the arteries. Angiography is the gold standard for that.

What the result gives

The test shows where and how severely arteries are narrowed. This decides between medicines, a stent or surgery.

This is general patient education, not individual medical advice. Do not stop or change medicines yourself. Fast or make other preparations only when instructed by your care team.
