Preparing for angiography: medicines, food and going home
Before the test
Your doctor may order blood tests and an ECG first. Tell the team about allergies, kidney problems and blood thinners.
Wear comfortable clothing on the day and leave jewellery at home.
Food and medicines
Eating and drinking are usually limited for a few hours before the test. Get exact instructions from your doctor — especially if you have diabetes.
Do not stop medicines on your own; the doctor decides which to continue. Blood thinners deserve a special mention.
Getting home
Driving afterwards is not advised, so bring a companion. After a few hours of observation you are usually allowed home.
This is general patient education, not individual medical advice. Do not stop or change medicines yourself. Fast or make other preparations only when instructed by your care team.
