Exercise after a heart procedure
A gradual approach
Returning to movement after the procedure is good for the heart, but it should be gradual. Daily walks are usually the first step.
Which exercises?
Walking, swimming and cycling at moderate intensity are usually recommended. Discuss heavy lifting and strength training with your doctor first.
Warning signals
Stop and contact a doctor if you feel chest pain, breathlessness or dizziness during exercise. A cardiac rehabilitation programme is the safest route back.
This is general patient education, not individual medical advice. Do not stop or change medicines yourself. Fast or make other preparations only when instructed by your care team.
