Life after a stent: recovery and lifestyle
Recovery period
Most people return to daily activities within days. Heavy exertion is limited for a few weeks — your doctor will give the exact timeframe.
Medicines
Blood thinners (often a combination of two drugs) prevent the stent from closing. Do not stop them on your own, even if you feel well.
Long-term health
Controlling blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, quitting smoking and regular check-ups keep the stent working. Cardiac rehabilitation programmes also help.
This is general patient education, not individual medical advice. Do not stop or change medicines yourself. Fast or make other preparations only when instructed by your care team.
