Thyroid health
What the thyroid does
The thyroid is a small gland in the neck that regulates metabolism through hormones. Overactive and underactive states are widespread.
Symptoms
Unexplained weight change, fatigue, palpitations, hair loss and cold sensitivity can indicate thyroid problems. Symptoms are non-specific, so testing matters.
Checking
Function is checked with TSH and thyroid hormone blood tests; ultrasound may be added. Treatment is effective and usually with medicines.
This is general patient education, not individual medical advice. Do not stop or change medicines yourself. Fast or make other preparations only when instructed by your care team.
