Does angiography hurt? What you feel during the test

Anaesthesia

Local anaesthetic is usually used — you stay awake but feel no pain at the entry site. There may be a brief sting from the injection.

During the procedure

Catheter movement does not hurt, though some feel slight pressure. A warm flush may pass when contrast is injected — this is normal.

Easing discomfort

You can talk to the team throughout. Say so at once if discomfort increases — the team will help.
