What are angioplasty and stents?

What is angioplasty?

Angioplasty widens a narrowed artery with a balloon catheter. It is often done in the same session as angiography.

What is a stent?

A stent is a thin metal tube left inside the artery to keep it open. Most modern stents have a drug coating.

After the procedure

Blood thinners are prescribed afterwards — take them exactly as directed. Lifestyle changes matter for the long-term result.

This is general patient education, not individual medical advice. Do not stop or change medicines yourself. Fast or make other preparations only when instructed by your care team.
